What about the cold and the damp I ask, when I was younger I worried about that he says, but no more. I have climbed the mountaintop to meet the oracle, I thought that he might have some answers, but he’s talking about camping. So, he says, what’s been happening in Home & Away, is Tug still in it?

Friday Fictioneers #22: it seemed to be lit from within.

Blenkinsop woke and saw the window closed. It was 90° outside and he couldn’t remember shutting it himself. He got up, opened it, leaned outside. That wasn’t his garden. Three minutes later he was half dressed in clothes that didn’t fit him and out in the backyard. There was a marble gravestone so bright in the sunshine it seemed to be lit from within, a man on a wall rolling a joint, a goat, and they were all fenced in. The world had gone sideways but it was the same window. It just shouldn’t have been closed. The goat stared.

Friday Fictioneers #21: what the bible said about fools.

ImageNeville and crazy Brenda had chained their ankles to the unfinished clockface during the night, Brenda using a power drill to punch holes through the rim of the dial, then secreting it away in her handbag as dawn broke. It was the climax to their campaign against time. With all timepieces destroyed, civilisation would grind to a halt and nobody need ever die. Neville wanted to wait until Thursday, but Brenda reminded him of the old adage concerning procrastination, and of what the Bible said about fools. Nobody was going to talk her down. She was ready with the drill.
